This week’s recommendations.
Music!
I’ve been listening to a lot of Jason Isbell’s music lately. I haven’t gotten into his new album yet, but have been digging an older album of his called Southeastern.
As the weather warms up in the Northeast my playlists start the inevitable slide towards more Stick Figure, Slightly Stoopid, Steel Pulse, and some country songs that are well suited for hitting (chunking) golf shots and drinking beer. Do you have any hot recs for me? Any playlists that you’ve made on Spotify that I can eavesdrop on?
A Pod.
On Being, by Krista Tippett. I’d say 25% of the work that I’m consuming these days is material that can help me do the work to be a better human. My demons are depression, anxiety, and trying to be kind to myself. This week I listened to an episode of this pod featuring Elizabeth Gilbert called, How to Choose Curiosity Over Fear.
Video
This video from Dave Chappelle about George Floyd and the struggle against racism. This is 27 minutes long. Chappelle is a genius. I’ve watched this twice.
A few crumbs…
How are you doing? Like everyone, I’m feeling pretty isolated from most social situations. It’s a bit scary to notice how comfortable I am getting being alone. I worry that others might be feeling this withdrawal also. So how are you doing? I’d love to hear from you all individually.
On Reopening…
In Quincy, Braintree, and Hingham, the bars and restaurants are reopening. There are dive bars that have turned their parking lots into patios. Just rope off a piece of blacktop and you’ve got yourself a patio. It’s odd to see people sitting in parking lots on busy streets having drinks and food. It looks so out of place that it’s hard not to stare as you roll by. I’ve seen pictures of the North End of tables being set up on sidewalks and bike lanes. Have you all been to any restaurants yet? What’s it been like?
Love you guys. Hope you are well.
