A favorite organization of mine, Reboot has a wonderful newsletter that you can subscribe to here: https://www.reboot.io/ I’ve written at length about their offerings in old issues of Carrot Cake (check the archive). The link below inspired today’s piece.
I remember the bad iced coffee well and having lots of doubts (not sure I even had shared with Jenna at this point). Wouldn't be here, physically and where I'm at in general, without your guidance. Lucky to have you as my brother! Looking forward to our next pint together
Sull, it is better to have a few in your CIRCLE than 10 dozen in your corner
Reflection is great and fosters growth, but I think it's best to live without regrets. Certainly there are do overs that come from having the answer afterwards, but it's like the movie Mr. Destiny when Michael Caine says "you didn't think life was going to be perfect did ya". The mistakes, defeats, failures....they are a necessary part of us, and the toughness helps us develop wisdom, which is more valuable than knowledge. You have touched many lives and continue to, your emotional and guttural writings inspire me every time I eat a piece of "Carrot Cake". Love you for you
oh yes- I have regrets- but live with them since- there are no do overs. I figure the decisions i made were the best I could do at the time. a wise priest & friend once told me-guilt and regret are wasted emotions. I suppose its true, but we humans have them anyway. He said to forgive yourself -and go forward. Im wondering about this-Destiny or free will ??… another thing to consider, and what blessings came from the path already taken. The future awaits you! 💜🌻
Super proud of you always ♥️♥️
Let the record show that I paid in full and on time, every month. (You know how I still feel about that gym.) Jeff is super-British now if he’s become Geoff. 😂😂😂 I don’t call them regrets, but I totally get you…could I have taken another path to my right now?
Oh and when I make it big, I’ll say “shout out to Tom Sullivan for helping me get to the only time in my life that I could do 2.5 unassisted pull ups.”
The older I get the more my long held regrets disappear…I wouldn’t be here, well adjusted and happy, if I didn’t experience the regretful things I caused myself and experienced at the hands of others.
Hi Tom! I enjoyed reading this, thanks for sharing. For the record, I loved your “unsuccessful” gym - I was sad when it closed. (And I don’t think you should consider it unsuccessful). I do think I always paid… but if I owe you any money, let me know 😆 (for real!).
Sully, love reading your writing. I had no idea people were training with you for free. Doesn't shock me but trust me I have been screwed over by many in business so can attest to the frustration.
On another note you would have been the next Mike Boyle. Not even a question. I tell everyone I know including my oldest son I wish Tom Sullivan was still training athletes as he was the best around. Whether your business made money or not you "did not fail" You helped numerous athletes reach their goals because of the service you provided.
